Information on the schedule for the EQE 2021 examination papers

"Information on the schedule for the EQE 2021 examination papers" has been published in the EQE website today.

It indicates that:

"The EQE 2021 exam schedule is now available. Candidates are advised that the document may be subject to minor changes as testing continues.

The EQE 2021 will take place online using LockDown Browser. On examination days, candidates are advised to log on to the online examination system's internet platform at least 20 minutes before the start of the relevant paper.

Information on how to register and log on to the online examination system will be communicated in due course.

The pre-examination and both papers C and D will be split into parts. This means that candidates will not be free to allocate their time as they see fit across the different parts of the papers. To compensate for this restriction, the total duration of the relevant papers has been extended. Once the time allowed for a part has elapsed, it will not be possible to go back to that part."

The details for each of the Pre-Exam and main exam papers are given in the document.

The document comprises detailed schedules as to the break-up of the Pre-Exam, C and D papers into two or more parts, with scheduled breaks in between the parts. It indicates that once the time allowed for a part has lapsed, it will not be possible to go back to that part.

The Pre-Exam is broken into 4 parts: the legal part of the paper is split into two parts of 5 questions (4 statement each), and the claims analysis part is also split into two pars of 5 questions each.

Paper A and B are in one part.

Paper C is split into two parts.

Paper D has two breaks:The DI is split into two parts, each part having 3 questions (2 x 25 marks) and one DII part (50 marks).

Candidates in the Pre-Exam and Paper D would thus not have the possibility anymore to freely decide on the order in which they do the various parts and questions (2 legal parts and 2 claims analysis parts for Pre-Exam; 2 DI parts and 1 DII part for D). The total duration of these papers has been extended to compensate for the resulting restrictions.

Good luck!

  8. The FAQ on e-EQE has been extended with new information (examination platform, system, planning of mocks, proctoring).

"Besides the prerequisites of a standard computer system the following hardware is required: webcam, microphone and speakers."

"The screen should not be too small. In the mock exams, candidates should test which screen size best suits them. However, only one screen is allowed by the LockDown browser. Candidates using an external monitor attached to a laptop should make sure, that the built-in laptop screen is switched off, or is disabled. In the case of a built-in laptop camera, they should also pay attention to the correct camera configuration, as the active camera should also be placed close to the external monitor. More information on the technical configuration will follow later as well as dedicated FAQ on the camera."

  9. That DII is a 50 mark paper and not a 60 mark paper is not because of the e-EQE: before this Information, we already knew that it would almost certainly not be 60 marks, but somewhere between 40 and 60 - see the Notice from the Examination Board of the EQE of 13.03.2019 that indicated:

"As of 2020 the distribution of points for parts I and II may vary between 60:40 and 40:60 for Paper D.

How the points are to be distributed will not be announced before the examination."

e-EQE may have some cons and pros, but the different length of the DII is not on account of the e-EQE. (By the way, due to the split in 3 parts, you already know the length of it, while you would not have known if it would have been a paper exam - as the Notice indicates; that uncertainty is removed is an advantage for most candidates I would expect - it would be for me).

  13. It may be an advantage too, as one of my candidates said last week!

    That candidate said:
After you finished a part, you can completely empty your mind and start the next part with a fresh mind. You do not need to keep considering whether you need to change your answer to a previous question, as you an not change it anyhow.
The break herein also helps to empty your mind. After the break, you can then fully focus on the next part.
As there is freedom to allocate your time within a part (Comment: the "Information" implicitly says so: "you can not freely allocate your time ACROSS the various parts"), and as there is 20% extra per part (in DI and DII), the candidate considered it advantageous to have the split into 3 parts for D and 2 parts for C (Comment: and 4 parts for Pre-Exam).

Interesting comment! I hope some of you can use it to your advantage!

  14. @Anonymous 4 December 2020 at 14:36:

At various tutor meetings, it was indicated that there is always a pre-marking of a substantial fraction of all papers before the Possible Solution and the marking sheet are finalized, and before all paper are marked, sich that a fair marking is done that also accommodates for unexpected difficulties and unexpected alternative answers. It is one of the reasons why in, e.g., paper D the number of marks for the specific questions in DII is not given (unlike with DI). Despite that, there is quite some variation in pass rates from year to year (largely due to designed-in aspects , I think).

  15. The D-paper mock exam was a disaster. Part D1-1 and D1-2 were rushed in 90 minute sessions. Humanly impossible to finish and check if everything was right.

I got locked out in D2 because I accidentally pressed alt+tab (habit of shuffling between windows).
After more than an hour and a half, I could not reach the support staff because there were more than 100 people in the queue. Time ran out, and that was the end of it.

Pray god that nothing goes wrong on the exam day.

  16. Does anyone know if and how the paper DII can be printed? I am getting mixed feedback on this. Some are replying that you just have to wait until the DII part start and wait and not activate the lockdown just yet and then you should be able to print the DII part from the Wiseflow Screen. Other sources are indicating that it is not possible to print the DII paper part at all and that everything (including highlighting has to happen within the browser. I would appreciate any feedback on this. Thanks in advance
